Zijn goedkope motorhelmen veilig?
Ja, zolang ze een echt keurmerk dragen (DOT, ECE 22.06 of SNELL). Een keurmerk is slagen of zakken: een helm van €150 doorstond dezelfde impacttests als een van €700. Extra geld koopt vooral een lichtere schaal, stillere aerodynamica, betere ventilatie en luxere voering, geen sprong boven het wettelijke minimum aan bescherming.
Wat is de goedkoopste SNELL-gekeurde helm?
De HJC i10 is de uitblinker qua prijs-kwaliteit: SNELL M2020-keurmerk voor rond de €160. SNELL-tests zijn strenger dan DOT, dus het is zeldzaam dit voor deze prijs te zien.
Wat lever je in met een budgethelm?
Vooral comfort en verfijning: budgethelmen zijn zwaarder (polycarbonaat schaal), luidruchtiger bij snelheid, ventileren minder goed en missen meestal extraatjes zoals een Pinlock-antiwasemlens en een ingebouwd zonnevizier. Bescherming is, mits gekeurd, niet het inlevergebied.
