How often
Most modern motorcycles want fresh oil every 6,000-8,000 km, or once a year, whichever comes first. Check your manual for the exact interval and the correct oil grade.
What you'll need
- The correct oil and a new filter
- A drain pan, funnel, and torque wrench
- A new crush washer for the drain plug
Steps
- Warm the engine for a couple of minutes so the oil flows freely, then switch it off.
- Remove the drain plug and let the old oil drain fully.
- Swap the oil filter (smear a little fresh oil on the new gasket first).
- Refit the drain plug with a new crush washer, torqued to spec.
- Refill with the correct quantity, check the level on the sight glass or dipstick, and look for leaks.
Dispose of used oil responsibly at a recycling point, never down a drain.
